Jang Yu-bin eyes third win of season at KPGA Dong-A Membership Group Open

The KPGA Tour's Dong-A Membership Group Open tees off Thursday at Solago Country Club's Sol Course (par 72) in Taean, South Chungcheong Province, running through Sunday.

The event marks the tour's return after a two-month hiatus since the Gunsan CC Open in June. With a purse of 700 million won ($495,000) and a first-place check of 140 million won on the line, the central storyline is whether Jang Yu-bin can extend his dominance.

Jang returned to the KPGA Tour this season after a stint on LIV Golf and has been the circuit's standout performer, claiming two wins — the only player with multiple victories — and three additional top-five finishes. He leads both the Genesis Points standings (3,603 points) and the money list with 586.69 million won in earnings.

"My goal is to consistently maintain good form in the second half, building on the momentum I created with two wins in the first half," Jang said.

Seeking to challenge Jang's grip on the season are Lee Sang-yeop, winner of the season opener DB Insurance Promi Open; Choi Chan, who took the Woori Financial Group Championship; and Song Min-hyeok, champion of the GS Caltex MK Open.

In the Genesis Points race, Song (2,643 points), Moon Do-yeop (2,518 points) and Wang Jeong-hun (2,463 points) are all within striking distance of Jang, meaning the standings could shift after every event. The winner of this week's tournament will receive 1,000 points.

Defending champion Park Sang-hyeon enters the week chasing more than a title defense — he needs to push his career earnings past the 6 billion won mark. Since his KPGA Tour debut in 2005, Park has competed in 243 events and accumulated 5.92 billion won in prize money, leaving him roughly 75.73 million won short of the milestone.

His first half was a struggle: he entered eight events, made the cut in four and posted a best finish of tied 23rd at the KPGA North Gyeongsang Province Open.

"I worked hard on my fitness and practice even during the tour break," Park said. "My results in the first half were not good, so I want to produce satisfying results in the second half."
