Gangwon education office runs safety drills during Ulchi CPX

The Ulchi CPX period keeps education offices busy as well. Teachers and students join efforts to prepare for emergencies — learning first aid, relief care and recovery nursing for soldiers wounded in battle and injured family members.

The Gangwon Province Office of Education will operate a safety experience center at its main office Tuesday through Thursday. The center will allow headquarters staff and students to practice CPR, learn how to wear a gas mask, and use fire extinguishers and fire hydrants, building their capacity to respond to crisis situations in an emergency.

CPR and fire extinguisher use are skills anyone can learn through simple methods to protect lives and property. The safety experience center aims to prepare teachers and students in advance — so that when an unexpected wartime situation arises, they can save wounded soldiers and extinguish fires from a safe location.

Kim Myeong-bok, head of the safety and welfare division at the Gangwon Province Office of Education, said mastering not only CPR but also how to wear a gas mask and operate fire extinguishers and hydrants is "an essential requirement for protecting yourself and your family." He added that the office would "continue to develop a variety of hands-on training programs and educational activities so that students and staff can learn easily."
