Five apartment complexes in Jangwi-dong, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, are joining forces to host the 2nd Jangwi New Town Modumoyo Festival — known by its nickname "Jangnyumomope" — on Saturday along Jangwol-ro 37 and the surrounding area.
The festival was launched in 2025 by residents of five complexes: Kkumeui Sup iPark, Raemian Jangwi First High, Raemian Jangwi Fore County, Kkumeui Sup Daemyung Luchen and Kkumeui Sup Kolon Haneulchae. Bringing together roughly 5,000 households, it has established itself as Jangwi New Town's signature community gathering, now entering its second year.
At last year's inaugural event, the car-free street served as a stage for complex-by-complex activity booths, a flea market, a communal calligraphy performance, resident talent shows and food stalls. Participants said it was a special occasion for sharing warmth with neighbors and breaking down the walls between complexes.
This year's edition promises to be even livelier and more packed with activities. The Jangwol-ro 37 area will again go car-free, and the stretch around Gandae Children's Park will feature a giant water slide and water-play facilities for children, teenagers and families alike. Alongside the water attractions, residents will run hands-on activity booths, a food market and lively cultural performances — making it a festival where every generation can enjoy the day together.
Lee, a 38-year-old Jangwi New Town resident, said moving to Jangwi-dong in 2024 had left little opportunity to get close to neighbors — until last year's festival. "I was able to naturally mingle with many neighbors and open up," Lee said. "I'm already looking forward to enjoying it again this year with my family and neighbors."
Seongbuk-gu Mayor Lee Seung-ro said he was moved and proud to see residents pooling their energy to break down barriers and build a culture of coexistence between complexes. "We will spare no administrative or fiscal support to ensure that resident-led community activities continue to thrive throughout Jangwi New Town and across Seongbuk-gu," he said.
