A new 382-unit housing complex for young people and newlywed couples struggling with high housing costs has been completed in Bukgajwa-dong, Seodaemun-gu.
Seodaemun-gu announced Wednesday that construction of the transit-oriented youth housing complex — a publicly supported private rental development — at 333-1 Bukgajwa-dong is complete, with the official public notice issued the same day.
The complex sits about a five-minute walk from Jeungsan Station on subway Line 6, offering strong access to public transit. It comprises 382 units in total: 111 public rental units and 271 publicly supported private rental units.
The project advanced after the Seoul Metropolitan Government designated the site as a public-support private rental housing supply promotion district and approved the residential construction plan.
For the 271 private rental units, a tenant recruitment notice went out July 28, winners were announced Aug. 12, and move-ins are set to begin in October.
The complex also took the surrounding community into account. Of the total parking spaces, 24 have been set aside for shared vehicles and resident-priority parking — a measure expected to improve traffic and parking convenience for both residents and neighbors.
Seodaemun-gu said it expects the complex — combining the locational advantage of a transit-oriented area with relatively affordable housing costs — to help young people and newlywed couples put down stable roots in the district.
"Stable housing is an essential foundation for young people and newlywed couples as they plan their futures," Seodaemun-gu District Mayor Park Woon-ki said. "We will work hard to ensure housing stability so they can live, work and dream of their futures in Seodaemun."
