Gangnam-gu to host global talk show on integrity in public service

Seoul's Gangnam-gu will host the "Cheongnyeom Gangnam Global Talk Show," an event on integrity in public life, at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 2 in the lobby of the district office's main building, the district announced Wednesday.

Announcer Hwang Jeong-min will host the event, joined by Samy Rashad, a broadcaster from Egypt, and Julia Varund, a broadcaster from Finland. The cast will discuss standards of integrity, fairness and public-service ethics in their home countries, as well as cultural differences they have observed in daily life in Korea. The event aims to hold Korean norms of integrity up to an international lens and reflect on what clean, accountable governance should mean for Gangnam as a global city.

The talk show is open to all Gangnam residents. Advance registration is available from Tuesday through Sept. 1 via QR code or phone, with seats assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Because the event is held in the open lobby of the district office's first floor, anyone may also attend on the day without prior registration.

"I hope this event will be a time to share thoughts on integrity and find common meaning in its values," District Mayor Kim Hyun-gi said. "Going forward, Gangnam will continue to firmly uphold integrity as a leader in clean governance and build a culture of transparency through open communication and action with our residents."

Meanwhile, Gangnam-gu received an "excellent" overall integrity rating for the third consecutive year in the 2025 Public Institution Integrity Assessment conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission. The assessment evaluates 709 institutions nationwide based on surveys of citizens and employees who have had dealings with each agency, covering corruption experiences, the institution's year-long efforts to build an anti-corruption framework, its performance record, and the occurrence of corruption cases.
