'My child received treatment safely': Unexpected comment on Byeon Woo-seok's ad photo

A child at a residential care facility in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, has completed medical treatment funded by a donation from actor Byeon Woo-seok.

On Wednesday, a comment appeared on an advertising photo posted to Byeon's Instagram from a person identified as Lee, a cast member of the Netflix variety show "Yoo Jae-suk Camp." Lee wrote, "Team Leader Byeon, I have some news I'd like to share with you," adding that "a child at a residential care facility in Yongsan-gu, where I used to work, has safely completed treatment thanks to your donation for sick patients."

Lee continued: "It's truly amazing and deeply moving that your warm heart reached a place I hold dear. I am sincerely grateful and full of admiration for being such a great source of hope for one child."

Byeon replied to the comment, calling it "truly wonderful news."

The nickname "Team Leader Byeon" comes from a role Byeon took on in "Yoo Jae-suk Camp," which premiered in May. He served as one of three team leaders alongside Lee Kwang-soo and Ji Ye-eun, working closely with participants throughout the show.

Byeon has maintained a consistent record of charitable giving for young patients. In 2024, he donated 300 million won ($210,000) to Severance Hospital, and last year he donated the entire proceeds from merchandise sales to a pediatric cancer foundation.

On Jan. 1 this year, he made an additional donation of 100 million won to Severance Hospital for the treatment of young patients, and also gave 100 million won to G Foundation, a non-governmental organization focused on international development cooperation.

At the time of this year's donations, Byeon said, "I am glad to be part of efforts to support young patients in regaining their health and to help them and their families move toward a happy future."

Byeon is currently filming the Netflix series "Solo Leveling."
