Dongjak-gu officially launched its Urban Renewal Acceleration Committee on Wednesday and held its inaugural meeting, aiming to speed up and systematically manage redevelopment and reconstruction projects across the district.
The committee was established as part of the district's first approved initiative under the ninth directly elected administration — a plan to accelerate redevelopment and reconstruction projects. It is tasked with monitoring and supporting projects so residents can see them move forward without conflict or delay.
The committee is chaired by District Mayor Ryu Sam-young and comprises 15 members in total: seven internal members including the deputy district mayor and directors overseeing renewal projects, and eight outside experts spanning six fields — urban planning, architecture, transportation, law, property appraisal and project management.
At Wednesday's meeting, participants shared updates on the current status of renewal projects, key issues and process management plans for major zones, and the committee's future operating direction, then discussed management measures to improve the pace and effectiveness of project delivery.
The district has put in place a four-stage process management system — inspection, assessment, analysis and resolution, and feedback — designed to detect delays early and restore projects to their normal track quickly.
In the inspection stage, officials closely examine whether each project is on schedule based on its process management plan. In the assessment stage, projects are rated by progress status so that those at high risk of delay can be identified early.
When a delay is confirmed, the analysis and resolution stage kicks in: officials diagnose the cause and put together concrete remedies, including administrative procedure support and expert consultation. In the final feedback stage, the district continuously monitors whether corrective actions have been carried out and keeps a close watch on each project's progress until it is back on track.
The district is currently advancing 85 projects, including large-scale redevelopment and small-scale reconstruction schemes. Centered on the newly launched committee, Dongjak-gu plans to strengthen inter-departmental collaboration and expert consultation, maintain ongoing oversight of each project's progress, and build a foundation for swift renewal that residents can tangibly feel.
"Renewal projects are vital undertakings that reshape the future of our community and the lives of our residents, so it is important that we raise both speed and quality together," District Mayor Ryu said. "Through the Urban Renewal Acceleration Committee, we will pool the capabilities of the administration and our experts to raise the quality of each project and deliver change that residents can truly feel."
