Gangnam-gu is putting the finishing touches on its preparations for the 2026 Gangnam Festival, set to run Oct. 3–5, with safety, traffic and operational plans for this year's inaugural Grand Parade now taking shape.
The district office held a mid-progress review for the festival on Aug. 14 in its main conference room. About 75 people attended — 31 members of the Gangnam Festival organizing committee, 22 resident representatives, district office officials and neighborhood chiefs — and together reviewed the festival's key program plans, visitor flow, safety management, traffic control and promotional strategy.
Now in its 15th edition, the 2026 Gangnam Festival will be held across Gangnam, centered on Apgujeong-ro and Dosan-daero. Breaking from its traditional home on Yeongdong-daero, the festival is relocating its main stage to the Apgujeong and Dosan-daero area, where it will showcase K-pop and family concerts, fashion, food and a range of other attractions all in one place.
The most notable addition this year is the Grand Parade, making its debut for the first time. Tied to a community harmony festival, the parade will be a large-scale street procession with direct resident participation along an approximately 2-kilometer route covering Apgujeong-ro — including the Cheongdam luxury shopping strip — and Dosan-daero. The parade is envisioned as the festival's opening statement, bringing together residents and tourists and vividly showcasing Gangnam's distinctive urban atmosphere and cultural appeal on the streets.
Along Dosan-daero, events will include the Grand Parade, a family concert, a K-pop concert and a K-culture festa spanning fashion, beauty and food.
Alongside this, a range of cultural events will unfold across Gangnam throughout the festival period — a KBS traditional music concert at Maru Park, an international peace marathon around Bongeunsa-ro, and a temple music concert at Bongeunsa.
Organizers expect large crowds for the first-ever street parade and focused particular attention during the review on on-site measures including visitor flow management, traffic control and venue safety.
Feedback from organizing committee members and residents gathered at the review will be incorporated into detailed implementation plans, with on-site inspections continuing until the festival opens to finalize any remaining adjustments.
"The Gangnam Festival is a cultural celebration enjoyed by people from around the world, but above all it is a festival where residents are the stars," district mayor Kim Hyun-gi said. "We will prepare so that residents can participate directly in this year's first-ever street parade and show off what makes Gangnam unique." He added that the district would "carefully reflect the opinions raised at the mid-progress review to create a festival where everyone can participate safely and joyfully."
