Daegu Mayor Choo conducts final inspection of WMAC Daegu 2026 venues

Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho made a final inspection of Daegu Stadium on Thursday afternoon, one day before the opening of the 2026 World Masters Athletics Championships (WMAC Daegu 2026), reviewing competition facilities and participant support systems.

Choo toured a series of key facilities, including the welcome center, registration desk, total information center, operations control room and press center, before moving on to the main stadium track, spectator stands and the west plaza, where side events and medal ceremonies are scheduled.

At the welcome center and registration desk — the first facilities athletes encounter upon arriving in Daegu — Choo examined the athlete registration and information systems and urged staff to provide attentive, participant-centered guidance so that competitors and their families from around the world could take part in the championships without difficulty.

At the main stadium, he checked the track, competition management facilities, decorations and the condition of the spectator stands.

He also reviewed safety measures for athletes and spectators, including heat-response protocols and emergency medical systems to address the hot summer weather expected during the competition.

In addition, he instructed officials to manage key movement routes and on-site operations carefully until the last moment to ensure the opening ceremony proceeds safely and smoothly.

"Our top priority is ensuring that all athletes from 106 countries can enjoy the championships safely and conveniently," Choo said. "We will pay close attention to safety response systems as well as accommodation, transportation and on-site guidance."
