Moon Geun-young returns to big screen in director Yeon Sang-ho's new film 'Yeto'

Moon Geun-young is returning to the big screen in "Yeto," a new film directed by Yeon Sang-ho — her first theatrical role in nine years since "Glass Garden" opened in 2017.

According to distributor Showbox and the cast's agencies, "Yeto" is co-directed by Yeon and emerging filmmaker Yun Young-woo. The film follows a pair of influencer sisters who go on a camping trip, only for the younger sister to vanish at the ruins of a mysterious cult.

Moon plays Sua, an influencer who documents everyday life with her younger sister Mina, starring alongside Ko Ah-sung and Kim Si-a. It marks the first time Moon has worked with Yeon since "Hellbound" Season 2, the Netflix drama series in which her bold performance drew wide attention — this time reuniting on the big screen.

Kim Si-a, who made a strong impression in "Kill Bok-soon" and "Miss Baek," plays Mina, the younger sister thrown into confusion as Sua tries to keep up their influencer life, showcasing on-screen sibling chemistry with Moon. Ko Ah-sung takes on the role of Deokhui, a character who encounters the two sisters in the mysterious world they enter — marking her first collaboration with Yeon and another new screen persona for the actress.

"Yeto is one of the most original works I have made — a combination of distinctive visual effects and drama," Yeon said. "It also requires a considerable amount of post-production work, and I will do my best in the remaining post-production to deliver it at the highest possible quality."

Yun Young-woo, who worked in the directing department on "Train to Busan" and "Parasite" before serving as assistant director on "Parasyte: The Grey" and "Hellbound," makes his commercial feature debut with the film after a long collaboration with Yeon.

"Yeto begins in a familiar everyday world and moves into a strange realm shaped by someone's intense belief," Yun said. "I wanted to offer audiences a different kind of experience through what the two sisters go through in that place." He added that, as his first feature film years in the making, he would spare no effort in post-production to ensure every detail is right and deliver the best film possible to audiences.

"Yeto" has wrapped filming and is currently in post-production.
