Reports of body found in Jeju missing-woman case are false, police say

Claims that the body of Jang Mi-ran, 37, a woman who went missing in Jeju in May, had been found have been confirmed as false.

According to Newsis, reports circulated online and through other channels Saturday claiming a body linked to Jang had been discovered, but police confirmed no such discovery had been made.

Rumors that a skeletal body had been found alongside Jang's identification and other personal belongings were also confirmed to be untrue.

Jang was last seen leaving her home in Hallim-eup, Jeju, at around 10:15 p.m. on May 12, taking only her mobile phone. Her family reported her missing to police three days later, on May 15.

Police checked accommodations near Hallim Port based on location data from her phone but were unable to find her and closed the case.

Police said they are continuing their search and investigation to determine her whereabouts.
