Ko Young-wook, convicted of sexually assaulting minors, takes aim at comedian Jang Do-yeon

Ko Young-wook, 50, a former member of the group Rula, has publicly criticized comedian Jang Do-yeon.

On Sunday, Ko wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account: "Flip through the channels and it's Jang Do-yeon here, Jang Do-yeon there. What I remember is her dancing frivolously on 'Gag Concert' back in the day — not fitting in, not funny. Are there really no other MCs?"

On the same day, he also commented on Jang Dong-min after sharing a challenge video featuring Jang and the group At Heart.

Ko recalled past times, writing, "Dong-min has come a long way. Around the time I was wrapping up my broadcasting career, we used to film a show together with Yoo Se-yoon, Yoo Sang-mu and Defconn, and we'd go clubbing sometimes after shoots — good times." He added, "After my incident blew up, Se-yoon, Sang-mu and Defconn all sent me a text, even if just briefly, but Dong-min never reached out. I have always remembered that."

Ko also wrote that he had seen many comedians both on and off camera but found most of them unfunny, adding that Yoo Se-yoon was, in his personal view, the one with the most wit and humor.

Ko debuted in 1994 with Rula and in 2013 was sentenced to two years and six months in prison on charges of sexually assaulting and raping three minors. He was also ordered to have his personal information disclosed for five years and to wear an electronic monitoring anklet for three years — earning him the notoriety of being the first celebrity in South Korea fitted with such a device. He served two years and six months across three facilities — Southern Detention Center, Anyang Prison and Seoul Southern Prison — and was released in 2015.

In November 2020, Ko opened an Instagram account, saying he wanted to "cautiously reconnect with the world," but it was shut down within a day after a flood of reports. In August 2024, he launched a YouTube channel, which similarly drew a wave of complaints and closed within about two weeks. He has since been sharing updates through X.

Ko has recently used his X account to publicly criticize a string of celebrities by name, including Yoo Jae-seok, Shin Dong-yeop, Kang Hyung-wook, Lee Chan-won, Lee Ji-hye, Lee Sang-min, Tak Jae-hoon and Park Ha-sun.
