The People Power Party will hold an overnight retreat for all its lawmakers in Ilsan, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on Thursday and Friday, ahead of the regular legislative session.
Former President Park Geun-hye is expected to attend on the first day of the retreat, at the invitation of floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik, Yonhap reported Monday.
A former president's attendance at such a gathering is unusual. Park, who has served as party leader, emergency committee chair and president, is expected to deliver a message about the party's future direction.
The first day's schedule will also include presentations on party reform measures and key policy priorities for the regular session, a comprehensive discussion on strategies for current issues, working-group sessions by standing committee, and regional consultations by city and province.
Expert lectures have been arranged in the areas of AI, foreign affairs and security, and conflict resolution. The speakers are Lee Seung-hyeon, chief executive of Alpaca Lab and author of "AI and National Wealth"; Park Won-gon, a professor of North Korean studies at Ewha Womans University; and Kim Gyeong-il, a psychology professor at Ajou University.
On the second day, lawmakers will hold a "2030 Youth Talk" session covering real estate, stocks and employment — topics of particular interest to younger generations — followed by an open floor debate among all members before adopting and announcing a final resolution.
