North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly opens 365th extraordinary session

The North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly opened its 365th extraordinary session Tuesday, running through Sept. 3.

The assembly plans to hold the first provincial administration audit of the 13th council, form special committees and process a range of livelihood-related ordinance bills during the session.

At the first plenary session, lawmakers Yun Gi-hyeon (Gyeongsan), Yun Seung-o (Yeongcheon), Choi Deok-gyu (Gyeongju), Kim Il-su (Gumi), Kim Ye-young (proportional representation) and Choi Byeong-geun (Gimcheon) will deliver five-minute open-floor speeches proposing policy alternatives on regional issues.

From Wednesday through Sunday, standing committees will review ordinance bills and other agenda items under their jurisdiction.

At the second plenary session on Monday, lawmakers Kwon Baek-sin (Andong), Jang Myeong-su (Pohang) and Kim Sang-hui (Bonghwa) will conduct the 13th council's first provincial administration questioning, examining key issues in provincial governance and education administration and presenting policy alternatives.

Following the questioning, the assembly will receive reports on the election of chairs and vice chairs for five special committees, after which the newly elected officers will deliver remarks.

Standing committee activities will continue Tuesday and Wednesday, and the session will close after the third plenary session on Sept. 3, when the assembly takes final votes on ordinance bills and other pending agenda items.

Assembly Speaker Kim Hui-su said he hopes the session will be "a meaningful term that demonstrates in practice and results the spirit of 'the strength of North Gyeongsang, the hope of its residents, and a working assembly.'"
