A former police officer has been arrested on suspicion of killing a woman in her 50s in Jeju.
According to the Seogwipo Police Station and KBS, the woman was found stabbed to death at a residence in Namwon, Seogwipo, at around 7 p.m. Monday.
Officers tracked down her husband, a man in his 50s identified only as A, at a lodging facility in Gyeonggi Province and arrested him on murder charges at around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Earlier, on Sunday, a family member had reported to police in another region that A could not be reached. Jeju police, responding to a cooperation request, visited the home of the victim, identified only as B.
Officers were unable to enter the house on their first visit and did not grasp the situation at the time. When they returned in the evening and found a broken window, they entered and discovered the victim collapsed inside, dead.
Based on closed-circuit television footage and other evidence, police believe A stabbed B to death in the early hours of Sunday.
A is believed to have fled Jeju on Sunday morning, shortly after the killing.
Police are investigating the exact motive and circumstances of the crime.
