Gaon Cable, DL E&C complete verification of new cable method for apartment buildings

Gaon Cable said Tuesday it has completed performance and installation verification of its pipe-integrated ACF cable at a new apartment construction site in collaboration with DL E&C.

The ACF cable is a pipe-integrated product that combines a power cable with an aluminum casing that serves as conduit. Gaon Cable plans to begin full-scale deployment in DL E&C's newly built apartment projects next year.

The two companies signed an MOU in 2023 to jointly research and develop the exposed-installation method using ACF cable, and have since worked to advance the technology and optimize construction processes. By integrating the conventional conduit installation and wire-insertion steps into a single process, the method can cut construction costs by up to 20 to 30 percent. Gaon Cable is currently the only company in South Korea to have commercialized and supply the product.

Applying the ACF cable exposed method at new apartment construction sites had been difficult due to the absence of standardized installation procedures and guidelines. The two companies addressed this by developing dedicated installation methods and accessory materials, and by using DL E&C's BIM (building information modeling) design to calculate precise material quantities, improving both construction efficiency and quality.

ACF cable can be applied not only to apartment buildings but also to a range of structures including logistics centers and industrial plants. It is particularly well suited for renovation projects, where it can be installed in tight spaces without removing existing conduit or laying new piping.

"We will continue developing distribution solutions that improve construction efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and strengthen our push into both domestic and overseas distribution markets."
