Korea Housing Builders Association donates W30m to flood-hit Geoje, Tongyeong

The Korea Housing Builders Association announced Tuesday that it has donated 30 million won ($21,700) to support swift flood recovery and housing stability for residents displaced by heavy rains in Geoje and Tongyeong.

The association visited Geoje City Hall in South Gyeongsang Province on Monday to present the relief funds.

The donation was pooled by the association's central body together with its 13 regional chapters nationwide. Park Jae-bok, chairman of the Busan chapter, and Kim Chan-su, chairman of the Ulsan and South Gyeongsang Province chapter, attended the handover ceremony.

"As a member of the housing construction community, I extend my deepest condolences to those who have lost their homes and livelihoods to flooding," Korea Housing Builders Association President Kim Seong-eun said. "I hope this donation provides meaningful help to the residents of Geoje and Tongyeong as they work to rebuild their daily lives and find safe shelter."

Kim added that he was deeply grateful to the regional chapters across the country for joining the fundraising effort despite difficult conditions in the industry. "We will continue to share the burden with communities struck by disasters and fulfill our social responsibilities as the leading organization in housing construction," he said.

Geoje, Tongyeong and surrounding areas were battered by torrential rain over the three-day Liberation Day holiday weekend, causing widespread damage. Relief efforts from across the country have continued to pour in to help with recovery.
