Korea National Railway seeks developer for DMC station mixed-use project

Korea National Railway announced Tuesday it will hold a 60-day open call for a project developer to advance a mixed-use development at Digital Media City (DMC) Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line.

The project site covers 5,598.7 square meters and is intended to bring together commercial, business and cultural functions in a single complex, adding new vitality to Seoul's northwestern districts by capitalizing on the site's transit-oriented location and surrounding development conditions.

DMC Station serves as a transfer hub where three rail lines converge — subway Line 6, the Airport Railroad and the Gyeongui-Jungang Line — giving it strong regional connectivity to central Seoul, Incheon International Airport and key areas across the greater metropolitan area. Nearby anchors include the Sangam DMC and Magok industrial complexes, as well as large residential zones such as the Hyangdong public housing district and Eunpyeong New Town, all of which make the site well suited for mixed-use development.

The site was originally included in a higher-level district unit plan but was reclassified as a separate zone through a revision notice in December 2024, enabling independent project execution and more flexible development planning.

Through the open call, Korea National Railway said it will focus on three areas: a mixed-use development concept incorporating commercial, business and cultural functions; a differentiated development plan that draws on the transit-oriented location and the characteristics of idle railway land; and measures to promote local revitalization while securing both public benefit and commercial viability.

The application period runs from Tuesday through Oct. 23, and details are available on the Korea National Railway website.

Lee An-ho, acting president of Korea National Railway, said DMC Station on the Gyeongui Line "is a strategic location with excellent transport accessibility and strong development potential," adding that the agency aims to "raise the value of idle railway land and create a model transit-oriented mixed-use development that balances public benefit with commercial viability."

Meanwhile, Korea National Railway is also pursuing a mixed-use development project at the Suseo Station transit center.
