Iran's foreign minister says Strait of Hormuz should be jointly managed by regional states

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said regional disputes should be resolved through dialogue among neighboring states rather than outside intervention, pointing to ongoing discussions with Oman over a joint management framework for the Strait of Hormuz as a prime example.

Araghchi said Tuesday (local time) on social media platform X that he had met separately with the Omani foreign minister and Pakistan's army chief, posting photos from both meetings. "Iran's commitment to peace and stability goes hand in hand with steadfast diplomacy with its neighbors," he said, adding that the talks with the Omani and Pakistani officials had underscored the importance of regional solutions.

He said the proposed framework — covering the opening of new corridors, joint mine-clearing operations and future management of the Strait of Hormuz — stood as a concrete example of what regional diplomacy could achieve.
