Iran state TV airs video threatening Barron Trump with $10M bounty; Secret Service says it's aware

Iran's state broadcaster aired a video openly threatening Barron Trump, the youngest son of President Donald Trump, with assassination — prompting US security authorities to respond.

According to CNN on Tuesday (local time), Iranian state broadcaster IRIB aired a roughly three-minute video over the weekend that opened with an English-language graphic reading "Where to kill Barron Trump." The clip also appeared to offer a $10 million bounty for Barron.

Barron is the youngest of Trump's five children and his only child with first lady Melania Trump. He is 20 years old and currently enrolled at New York University's Stern School of Business, which he entered in 2024.

The IRIB video featured graphics showing Trump Tower in New York and other locations where Barron is known to spend time publicly. Toward the end of the clip, a narrator says people are "desperately waiting" to collect the $10 million bounty.

Iranian hard-line media outlets have repeatedly broadcast threatening content targeting Trump and his family since late February, when war broke out between Iran and the United States and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and many of his family members were killed.

While threats against first lady Melania have appeared before, CNN said this appears to be the first time Barron has been publicly singled out.

The Secret Service, which protects the president and other senior officials, said it is aware of the threat against Barron and is taking precautions.

Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring said in a statement to CNN that the agency "is aware of the video and is investigating anything that can be interpreted as a threat against our protectees," adding that it does not comment on protective security matters due to operational security concerns.

A federal law enforcement source also told CNN that the video is part of a broader Iranian video campaign targeting Trump and his family. Some of the videos include details about the movements of Trump family members and proposals for killing them.

Trump referenced Iranian assassination threats while attending the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, last month, saying: "I'm on every list. I've been a little lucky so far, but maybe that won't last long. These are evil, crazy people."

Trump also drew attention when he appeared to board Air Force One after the NATO summit before switching to a military transport aircraft — a move also attributed to Iranian assassination threats.

The US government has warned since Trump's first term that Iran and Iran-linked groups have been targeting him for assassination, following the 2020 killing of Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' elite Quds Force.
