Seongdong-gu creates dedicated parking zone for short-stay visitors

Seongdong-gu announced Wednesday it has created a dedicated short-stay parking zone for residents visiting the district office on brief errands, aiming to improve parking convenience and create a more comfortable environment for those using the facility.

The short-stay zone — the first of its kind among Seoul's autonomous districts — is reserved for residents who need one hour or less to complete administrative tasks such as obtaining official documents or handling other government business. The district said the zone was designed to let such visitors park more quickly and conveniently.

Six spaces have been set aside on the below-ground first floor of the district office's attached parking lot, each marked with signage identifying it as a short-stay zone so users can easily spot them.

The district said the zone is intended not only to ease parking for short-stay visitors but also to reduce congestion caused by long-term parking and improve the overall use of existing spaces. The dedicated zone was placed near the district office entrance to shorten the walking distance to the civil affairs counter and improve accessibility. The district plans to regularly monitor usage and maintain the signage and facilities to ensure smooth operation.

Meanwhile, Seongdong-gu is also pursuing a residential parking-sharing project to address chronic parking shortages in the area. The program opens up private residential parking spaces — left empty when residents commute or go out — for use by other neighbors.

"We have improved the parking environment so that residents coming in for quick errands do not face the added inconvenience of finding a spot," Seongdong-gu District Mayor Yoo Bo-hwa said. "We will continue to pay close attention to the small inconveniences residents face in their daily lives and deliver hands-on administrative services that people can feel making a real difference."
