POSCO Cheongam Foundation selects 40 university students for living stipend scholarships

The POSCO Cheongam Foundation announced Wednesday that it has selected 40 students for its 2026 POSCO Vision Scholarship and held a certificate presentation ceremony at Stay 1538, a company resort facility in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province.

Since introducing the POSCO Vision Scholarship program in 2006, the foundation has provided 8.4 billion won ($6.07 million) in scholarships to 682 university students over 21 years through this year. Selected recipients receive a living stipend of 2.5 million won per semester for up to seven semesters until graduation.

To identify strong candidates each year, the foundation works with major universities nationwide, city halls and high schools in the Pohang and Gwangyang areas, and scholarship support platforms. This year, the foundation expanded eligibility beyond students originally from Pohang and Gwangyang to include incoming students at universities located in those cities, selecting 40 recipients from 29 universities across the country — including Seoul National University, POSTECH, KAIST and Korea University.

On top of financial support, the foundation runs a range of capacity-building programs — including overseas volunteer activities and mentoring — to help recipients build networks and plan their career paths.

This year's certificate ceremony runs over two days and one night. International scholarship recipients studying for master's or doctoral degrees at Korean universities through the foundation's Korea Study Scholarship program are also taking part to share their cultures and experiences.

"The foundation will actively support scholarship recipients not only in focusing on their studies, but also in developing their capabilities through diverse experiences and exchanges," a foundation official said. "We hope they will grow into future leaders with a broad view of the world."

The official added that the foundation would "continue to expand tailored programs so that scholarship recipients can interact with diverse talent at home and abroad and grow into leaders of tomorrow's society, while working with local communities to identify and nurture promising individuals."

Meanwhile, the foundation recently selected 83 new Lighthouse Scholarship recipients this year to support a stable academic environment and cultivate future talent among high school students in the Pohang and Gwangyang areas, as part of its broader scholarship and social contribution activities.
