Seongbuk-gu and Seongbuk Police Station signed an MOU Wednesday to fast-track removal of abandoned and long-term illegally parked vehicles from the station's parking lot; police will identify and refer vehicles to the district office, which will carry out forced removal and administrative action.
Seongbuk-gu in Seoul has joined forces with Seongbuk Police Station to expedite the removal of abandoned vehicles and long-term parking violators from the station's auxiliary parking lot.
Seongbuk-gu signed an MOU with Seongbuk Police Station at the district office Wednesday, agreeing to jointly enforce the forced removal of abandoned and long-term illegally parked vehicles from the station's auxiliary lot. Seongbuk-gu District Mayor Lee Seung-ro and Seongbuk Police Station Chief Kim Jeong-wan attended the signing ceremony.
The agreement was prompted by growing congestion in the police station's parking lot caused by vehicles left unattended for extended periods — including cars whose license plates had been impounded due to unpaid fines — which had been inconveniencing visitors and staff.
Under the MOU, Seongbuk Police Station will identify and crack down on abandoned and long-term illegally parked vehicles in its auxiliary lot, then transfer the relevant vehicle information and documentation to Seongbuk-gu. The district office will then carry out forced-removal procedures and impose the necessary administrative penalties. During towing and forced removal, the police station will provide on-site assistance and ensure safety.
The two agencies expect the agreement to restore parking order in the auxiliary lot and reduce inconvenience for residents and visitors coming to the police station.
"Vehicles left abandoned for long periods not only occupy parking spaces and inconvenience visitors and staff, but also risk encouraging further abandonment," Police Station Chief Kim said. "Through this MOU, we will work closely with Seongbuk-gu to swiftly clear abandoned vehicles and create a more comfortable parking environment."
District Mayor Lee said the district office would use the partnership to quickly remove abandoned and illegally parked vehicles and ease residents' parking difficulties. "We will continue to pay close attention to the everyday inconveniences residents face and work with relevant agencies to resolve them," he added.
