Self-generation solar capacity, which stood at 4.6 GW two years ago, is forecast to reach 8.1 GW in 2030, 11.9 GW in 2035 and 16.3 GW in 2040.

The steering committee said it plans to revise its projections in line with a proposed regulation — currently in the legislative notice period and set to take effect in September — that would cap setback distances for solar installations at zero meters from roads and within 200 meters of residential buildings.

However, the committee said recalculating market potential and deployment projections to reflect the changes, along with reviewing grid capacity and revising other facility plans, would take considerable time, and the updated figures would instead be incorporated into the 13th Basic Plan.
