Installation of 45 designer streetlights along Myeongmok-ro and Sagajeong-ro improves the nighttime pedestrian environment; lighting ceremony and night tour showcase the newly created street of light
Jungnang-gu held a lighting ceremony Wednesday in front of 470 Myeongmok-ro to mark the installation of 45 designer streetlights along Myeongmok-ro and Sagajeong-ro.
Following the ceremony, attendees joined a night tour on foot to take in the newly created nighttime streetscape.
The project was undertaken to improve the nighttime pedestrian environment along Myeongmok-ro — from Sangbong Intersection to the intersection in front of Sangbong Market — and along Sagajeong-ro, from Sagajeong-ro 50-gil to Exit 4 of Sagajeong Station. Of the 45 streetlights, 33 were upgrades of existing fixtures and 12 were newly installed.
The lights were designed to meet road-lighting standards and the Seoul Metropolitan Government's nighttime landscape guidelines, securing adequate illumination to enhance pedestrian safety while creating a distinctive nighttime ambiance that reflects the character of each street.
The project drew on 750 million won ($542,000) in special grants. The district plans to continue expanding designer streetlight installations in phases, tailoring designs to the character of each neighborhood and its surroundings to improve nighttime walkability and bring greater vitality to local streets.
"I hope Myeongmok-ro and Sagajeong-ro will become streets that are safe and inviting to walk at night, and that breathe new energy into the local economy," Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said. "We will keep expanding our landscape lighting projects to match the unique character of each street."
