Gwajupseyeon again denies drug use, says she took boyfriend's sleeping pills after fight

BJ and YouTuber Gwajupseyeon (26, real name In Se-yeon), who has been booked by police on charges of violating the Act on the Control of Narcotics, again denied ever using drugs or marijuana. She said she had taken sleeping pills belonging to her boyfriend, YouTuber Kay (36, real name Park Jung-gyu), during an argument and was subsequently taken to an emergency room, and expressed deep remorse.

An Hyeong-seo, a lawyer at Myosu Law Office representing Gwajupseyeon, released a statement Thursday saying the matter "originated from an incident in which Gwajupseyeon, amid an escalating conflict with her partner, took sleeping pills (containing zolpidem) that he had in his possession and was transported to an emergency room for treatment." The lawyer added: "We make clear that Gwajupseyeon was not involved in obtaining a proxy prescription for sleeping pills, and that she has absolutely no record of illegally possessing or using narcotics or marijuana."

However, the statement acknowledged that her actions at the time stemmed from a lack of legal awareness, and expressed regret.

"Gwajupseyeon did not fully understand the legal implications and risks of taking another person's sleeping pills at the time, but after receiving legal counsel she has clearly recognized her wrongdoing and is deeply reflecting on it," An said.

The statement also addressed allegations that Gwajupseyeon had tampered with her hair to obstruct the investigation.

An said Gwajupseyeon appeared before investigators on Aug. 4, voluntarily provided records of her medical prescriptions and medication history, and submitted her own hair — without any prior cutting or bleaching — for testing purposes.

"The date on which Gwajupseyeon subsequently changed her hairstyle through cutting and bleaching was Aug. 25, approximately three weeks after the voluntary hair submission," An said. "We again make clear through this statement that, contrary to some allegations, the style change had nothing to do with the police investigation."

In closing, An asked that people refrain from "unfounded speculation and malicious defamation suggesting that Gwajupseyeon was involved in obtaining proxy prescriptions for sleeping pills, or that she illegally acquired or used marijuana or narcotics." The lawyer also offered "a sincere apology for causing concern to so many people."

Meanwhile, Gwajupseyeon and Kay were booked in July on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. Kay is suspected of having a sleeping pill prescription obtained through an acquaintance and administering it to Gwajupseyeon in June.

Gwajupseyeon's emergency room visit revealed signs of psychotropic drug use, and police subsequently elevated both individuals to suspect status. Police have booked three suspects in total, including the pair, and the investigation is ongoing.

Gwajupseyeon began her career as a streamer in 2019 and gained wider public recognition through appearances on the Netflix original variety show "The Influencer." In 2024, she drew attention after being spotted with Hybe Chairman Bang Si-hyuk in the United States.

She and Kay, who has around 700,000 subscribers, publicly confirmed their relationship in April.
