Actor Han Ga-in has offered candid parenting advice to a producer expecting a child, urging him above all to take good care of his wife after she gives birth.
The advice came Thursday in a video posted to Han's YouTube channel "Jayubuyin Han Ga-in," titled "What happens when Han Ga-in, whose kids are back in school, sits down for samgyeopsal and soju."
In the video, Han responded to the expectant father's request for parenting tips by stressing that supporting his wife after delivery should be his top priority.
"When a woman gives birth, she has done something truly remarkable — because it is genuinely dangerous," Han said. "Carrying a baby for 40 weeks takes a far greater physical toll than most people realize."
She went on to say that as the body reaches peak pain late in pregnancy, it floods with happiness hormones and endurance hormones — only for them to cut off the moment the baby is born. "A moment where you feel like you might die suddenly hits you," she said. "You just feel depressed."
Han also spoke from personal experience about postpartum depression, saying she would find herself silently in tears for no apparent reason. "If you hurt her feelings during that time, the memory really sticks," she said. "It's been 11 years for me and there are things I still remember — every single word." The remark drew laughter, though Han did not reveal what had specifically upset her.
She then turned directly to the expectant producer with a pointed warning: "You really cannot afford to mess up when your wife is giving birth."
