BBQ opens second Mexico location in Monterrey, eyes wider K-food push

Genesis BBQ Group announced Monday it has opened its second location in Mexico, BBQ Cumbres, in Monterrey, Nuevo León.

The new store follows the chain's first Mexican outlet in the capital, Mexico City, which opened last month. Monterrey is an industrial and economic hub in northern Mexico with a metropolitan population of more than 5 million. According to a 2024 survey by Mexico's national statistics agency INEGI, Nuevo León has the highest average household income among urban areas in the country.

BBQ Cumbres sits inside Sikara Distrito Urbano, a mixed-use complex in the Cumbres district on the western side of Monterrey. The store covers 184.74 square meters and seats 95 — 48 indoors and 47 on a terrace. The menu features fried chicken, secret-sauce chicken, hot spicy chicken and soy garlic chicken, alongside K-food items including tteokbokki, kimchi fried rice and cheese balls.

"Within a month of opening our first store in Mexico City, we have expanded into Monterrey, a key economic city in the north, rapidly growing our footprint," a BBQ official said. "We will introduce K-chicken to local consumers in a way that suits the character of each city and its commercial district."
