Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-kyun made the rounds at three community sports events Saturday, attending a tennis tournament, a jokgu competition and a youth basketball festival held across the district to encourage participants and celebrate the spirit of unity through recreational sports.
The day began at 8 a.m. at the Mangwon interchange tennis courts, where the 38th Mapo-gu District Mayor's Tennis Tournament drew about 350 players and officials.
Yoo presented commendations to distinguished participants, joined the athletes' oath ceremony and posed for commemorative photos, applauding the dedication of those who have kept up their training despite busy daily lives.
He then moved to Mangwon Retention Basin Sports Park for the 2nd Seoul Metropolitan Saemaul Leaders' Jokgu Tournament, welcoming about 300 saemaul leaders from all 25 autonomous districts of Seoul.
Yoo performed the ceremonial kick-off and expressed gratitude to the saemaul leaders for their quiet service to their communities, saying he hoped the tournament would deepen friendship and solidarity among the city's districts.
At 11 a.m., he attended the 3rd Mapo Youth Sports Festival MSL near Exit 7 of Hongik University Station.
The event featured a youth 3-on-3 street basketball tournament and hands-on activity booths. Yoo joined the athletes' oath, drew the tournament bracket, performed the ceremonial tip-off and toured the activity booths to cheer on the young participants.
"Sweating together and cheering each other on through sport adds energy and joy to our community," Yoo said. "I hope every participant enjoys the games safely and takes home wonderful memories."
