Registration open through Sept. 15; submissions due Oct. 15
Yangju city announced Monday it is holding an architectural design competition for a school complex facility at Ganapcho Elementary School to expand education and childcare infrastructure in the area and provide diverse learning opportunities for students and residents.
The project aims to build a multi-use facility on the grounds of Ganapcho Elementary School in Gwangjeokmyeon, Yangju, linking the school with the surrounding community to address a shortage of childcare and education facilities and broaden opportunities for students in the city's western districts.
The planned facility will include a childcare and education center, an international education center, an edutech education center, a youth shelter and an indoor sports facility. A range of programs covering digital literacy and lifelong learning will also be offered to local residents.
The site is located within Ganapcho Elementary School at 799-2 Ganam-ri, Gwangjeokmyeon, Yangju, Gyeonggi Province. The new building will be constructed as a separate annex to the existing school, with a total floor area of about 1,230 square meters across two above-ground floors.
The total project cost is about 5.2 billion won ($3.84 million), with design services estimated at about 236 million won and construction costs at about 4.5 billion won.
Participants can register for the design competition through the Yangju city website or the official competition website through Sept. 15. Completed submissions will be accepted Oct. 15.
A preliminary review is scheduled for Oct. 26, followed by a full jury evaluation on Oct. 30, both conducted by a panel of architecture experts. Results will be announced Nov. 3.
The winner will be awarded the contract to carry out the basic and detailed design services for the project. Runners-up will receive compensation for costs incurred in preparing their entries, in accordance with relevant guidelines.
The design contract will run for approximately six months from the start date, after which construction will proceed.
