Gangseo-gu Launches Deep-Clean Drive to Freshen Up Senior Centers!

Gangseo-gu in Seoul is launching an environmental improvement project at its district-run senior centers to give older residents a safer and more comfortable space.

The project covers 43 of the district's 47 senior centers and runs through October. Newly constructed facilities and those temporarily housed in buildings undergoing housing redevelopment are excluded.

Working with a professional cleaning company, the district will carry out thorough interior and exterior cleaning and remove discarded furniture no longer in use. Refrigerator food management and kitchen supply organization will also be addressed.

On Monday, the project's opening day, District Mayor Jin Kyo-hoon visited the Gayang senior center to review the cleaning progress and oversee the project overall, lending a hand with the exterior wall cleaning himself.

He also heard directly from seniors who use the facility, checking whether they had any difficulties and whether the lunch service was meeting their needs.

Jin plans to continue his on-site visits Wednesday, when he is scheduled to inspect the Chorok senior center in Hwagok-bon-dong.

"The facilities were in need of improvement due to aging, and I am sorry we could not act sooner," Jin said. "We will check in more often and pay closer attention to make sure our seniors have everything they need."
