Ven. Hyomyeong appointed president of Buddhist Newspaper
Ven. Jinwoo, head of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, appointed Ven. Ilgam as secretary-general of the Future Headquarters at the order's executive headquarters on Tuesday.
Ven. Ilgam entered monastic life under his mentor, Ven. Wonyung, and received the novice monk precepts in 1990. He has served as abbot of Borisa, Ongnyeonam, Okcheonam and Yonggulam temples and as a member of the 16th and 17th Central Councils. He also served as secretary-general of the executive headquarters' Resolution Promotion Headquarters, as director of the Finance Department and as director of the Planning Office. He previously served as director of the Secretariat Office and as secretary-general of the Future Headquarters, and currently serves as a member of the 18th Central Council.
Ven. Jinwoo also appointed Ven. Ilgyu as director of the Media and Public Relations Office, Ven. Seonghaeng as head of the National Community Promotion Headquarters, and Ven. Deokyu as secretary-general of the National Community Promotion Headquarters.
He also named Ven. Hyomyeong as president of Buddhist Newspaper, Ven. Sangwon as secretary-general of the Korean Buddhism Cultural Affairs Corps, and Ven. Deokwoon as head of the administration office of the Social Welfare Foundation.
Ven. Jinwoo won reelection in the Jogye Order's 38th head-of-order election held Thursday.
Ven. Jinwoo garnered 183 of 321 votes cast by the electoral college, a 57 percent share, and will begin his second four-year term on Sept. 28.
