Voting runs through Sept. 16 to finalize 1.2 billion won participatory budget projects
Residents vote via Seoul Metropolitan Government's mVoting on 32 resident-proposed and 17 resident-governance projects
Geumcheon-gu will hold an online resident vote through Sept. 16 to select projects for its 2027 participatory budget program.
The district aims to gather residents' opinions through the vote to choose projects that are truly needed in the community.
The 2027 Geumcheon-gu participatory budget totals 1.2 billion won ($894,000). The vote covers two categories: an 800 million won resident-proposed track and a 400 million won resident-governance track.
The "resident-proposed" track lets residents directly suggest needed projects. Voters can choose five projects of their choice, regardless of category, from a total of 32 projects spanning five fields — transportation and housing; welfare and women; economy, culture and tourism; parks and environment; and education and youth.
Earlier, the district collected a total of 310 proposals through an open call for the resident-proposed track. After review by relevant departments and deliberation and screening by the Participatory Budget Committee, the district narrowed the field to 32 projects to be put to a vote.
The "resident-governance" track projects were identified through deliberation and public discussion by the 10 neighborhood resident autonomy councils and the Geumcheon-gu governance council. In total, 17 projects were selected for the vote — seven proposed by the resident autonomy councils and 10 by the governance council.
For the resident-governance vote, residents can choose one of the seven resident autonomy council projects and two of the 10 governance council projects.
Any Geumcheon-gu resident, as well as anyone who works or studies in the district, can take part in the vote. Those wishing to vote can do so through the Seoul Metropolitan Government's mVoting website or its mobile app.
The final selection of 2027 participatory budget projects will be made at the Geumcheon-gu Participatory Budget General Assembly, to be held on Sept. 22.
Through the participatory budget program in 2025, the district carried out several community-focused projects. These included remodeling the park in front of Usijang and building a safe underpass on Hoamsan.
"The participatory budget resident vote is an important process for deciding, through deliberation by residents, which projects the community truly needs," said Geumcheon-gu District Mayor Choi Ki-chan. "We will work to build Geumcheon into a better city for tomorrow through the active participation of residents."
