The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority (DGFEZ) held the Physical AI & Future Mobility Innovation Forum at the Hotel Interburgo Daegu on Tuesday. The event, organized with the North Gyeongsang Institute for Automotive Embedded Systems and the Gyeongsan Industry-Academia Convergence Institute, aimed to energize the region's industrial ecosystem.
About 70 people attended, including Kim Hee-seok, acting commissioner of DGFEZ; Lee Sang-hoon, head of the North Gyeongsang Institute for Automotive Embedded Systems; and Kim Bong-hwan, head of the Gyeongsan Industry-Academia Convergence Institute. Also present were officials from resident companies, public institutions and research institutes in the future mobility and AI sectors.
The first session featured keynote lectures on physical AI, software-defined vehicles and autonomous driving, while the second session held discussions on the direction of industry development.
The forum examined the convergence of physical AI, software-defined vehicles -- cars whose functions and performance are defined and managed by software -- and autonomous driving technology with manufacturing. It also reviewed the current state of related industries and real-world applications. Organizers said the event will help strengthen the innovation capacity of resident companies in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone working in these fields. It will also lay the groundwork for responding to future new industries.
"Amid the designation of four key industries for the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region under the government's five-pole, three-special-zone regional strategy, and the expansion of M.AX -- the AI transformation of manufacturing -- across the region, cooperation and speed are essential," said Kim Hee-seok, acting commissioner of DGFEZ. "We will bring together systems, infrastructure and networks to support resident companies so they can grow faster and expand into global markets."
