Daiso to support youth aging out of care in depopulating regions

Asung Daiso said Wednesday that it has joined the "On:Youth Project," an initiative aimed at helping youth aging out of state care in population-declining regions get a start in society.

Under the program, Asung Daiso plans to distribute gift cards so that young people can purchase products they need on their own. The support will go to 300 youth who are within five years of leaving state care and who live in one of 107 regions nationwide designated as population-declining or population-decline attention areas. Other participating organizations will each draw on their own expertise and resources to provide additional forms of support.

Youth aging out of care refers to young people within five years of leaving a child welfare facility or ending foster care. Over the past five years, from 2021 to 2025, a total of 7,395 youth nationwide exited the child protection system. More than 1,000 began independent life each year after leaving state care.

"We hope this will help youth aging out of care build a stable foundation for living as they take their first steps into society," an Asung Daiso official said. "We will continue to use Daiso's resources and capabilities to carry out activities that benefit local communities."
