HL Klemove to lead orders, mass production
Holds manufacturing track record, 2,700 patents
HL Klemove, the autonomous driving solutions arm of HL Group, said Wednesday that it has signed a partnership with global IT firm Lenovo to secure an early lead in the autonomous driving market.
The signing ceremony was held Tuesday at Lenovo's R&D center in Shanghai. Key officials from both companies attended, including HL Klemove President Lee Yun-haeng, Chief Technology Officer Hong Dae-geon and Chief Marketing Officer Kim Seong-guk. Lenovo's delegation included Vice President Peter Xu and Chief Operating Officer Nix Luo.
The partnership will proceed in three stages — first, joint development of AI high-performance computing for vehicles; second, securing orders; and third, mass production. HL Klemove will take the lead on the order-taking and mass-production stages. The company aims to establish an early foothold in the global fully autonomous driving market as it takes shape.
HL Klemove said it plans to leverage the global automaker network and mass-production experience it has built up since 2012. The company has produced sensing and control components for Level 2 and Level 2+ autonomous driving across global manufacturing hubs in China, North America and India. It said it has accumulated a manufacturing track record along with about 2,700 patents since 2012.
"We will combine HL Klemove's technological capabilities, sales power and production capacity with Lenovo's advanced autonomous driving controller design expertise to strengthen our competitiveness in the global market," said Lee. "We will quickly deliver fully autonomous driving solutions that satisfy customers."
"Lenovo is expanding its AI computing business into vehicle computing centered on Level 4 autonomous driving and advanced driver-assistance systems," said Xu. "We will draw on HL Klemove's manufacturing capabilities and global supply network to speed up our entry into new markets."
