Korea Research Institute for Local Administration and Next-generation Convergence Technology Research Institute sign MOU, hold joint research forum
The Korea Research Institute for Local Administration and the Next-generation Convergence Technology Research Institute announced Wednesday that they will sign an MOU titled "AI-Based Local Administration Innovation and Strengthening the Competitiveness of Regional Strategic Industries." They will sign the agreement Friday at the Next-generation Convergence Technology Research Institute in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.
The agreement aims to help local administration and regional industries respond preemptively to changes driven by the spread of AI technology. It also seeks to expand policy and technical cooperation, helping local governments make better use of AI and address regional challenges.
Under the agreement, the two institutions plan to cooperate in several areas, starting with policy research on AI-based local administration innovation and the advancement of public services. They will also jointly identify AI application models to solve regional problems, and conduct research supporting AI- and data-based policymaking and decision-making. In addition, the two sides will identify joint projects to demonstrate, verify and spread AI technology, and pursue academic exchange and specialist training in AI, data and digital transformation.
Following the signing ceremony, the two organizations will hold a joint research forum themed "Convergence of AI and Local Administration: From Technology to Acceptance, From Acceptance to Transformation." The forum will examine the introduction and use of AI technology, citizen acceptance and organizational change in stages.
The forum will focus in particular on ways to build citizen trust in and participation with AI-based policies and administrative services. It will also discuss organizational and workflow changes from adopting AI, along with the key tasks local governments need to prepare for.
"The advancement of AI technology is demanding new changes across local governments' policymaking, public services, and organizational and work practices," said Yook Dong-il, president of the Korea Research Institute for Local Administration. "I hope this MOU and research cooperation forum will be a meaningful occasion for us to go beyond simply adopting AI technology, and to jointly explore policy directions that build citizens' trust and acceptance and carry that forward into a genuine transformation of local administration."
