An office worker in his 30s has drawn attention online after posting proof that he won the lottery jackpot -- and revealing that he plans to keep going to work anyway.
On Tuesday, a post titled "Lottery jackpot" appeared on Blind, an anonymous community for office workers. The author, identified only as A, works at a South Korean conglomerate that produces displays.
"I really cannot hold this in any longer," A wrote, revealing that he had won the top prize in the lottery. "I am in my mid-30s, and I still cannot believe it," he added. "It still does not feel real, so I went back to work."
To verify his win, A posted a screenshot of the winning lottery ticket confirmation along with a photo of the winnings deposited into his bank account, and described in detail the process of collecting the prize money.
He said it was convenient to drive to Nonghyup's headquarters, noting that there is a parking lot behind the building, and that bank staff will guide winners who mention they are there to collect a lottery prize.
He said he first told a police officer stationed on the first floor about his win, and was then guided to a VIP room on the second floor. "Other first-prize winners were in the VIP room together, waiting and drinking tea, and we went in to collect our winnings when our number was called," A said. "It took about two hours in total until I actually had the money in hand."
A said he was not pressured to sign up for any other financial products at the bank, nor did he experience any inconvenience. "After taxes, I received about 1.2 billion won ($895,000)," he wrote. "After paying off all my loans and buying a new car, there was not much left." Because of that, he added with some regret, "I guess I will have to keep working."
Responding to other users' questions about how and where he bought the ticket, and whether he had had a related dream, A said, "I have been buying tickets for about six years now -- it is like a routine, 10,000 won worth automatically every week." He added, "I did not have any dream about it, and I did not buy Speeto scratch tickets or the pension lottery either."
With about 1.2 billion won in winnings in hand, A wrote in a follow-up comment that drew envy from fellow office workers: "Now going to work does not bother me anymore, and I do not have to worry about performance reviews or promotions." He added, "During chuseok, I am going to go back to my hometown, tell my parents, and buy them a house or a car."
Meanwhile, the winning numbers for the 1,240th lottery drawing, held Saturday, were 11, 13, 19, 20, 31 and 44, with 27 as the second-place bonus number. According to Dong Haeng Lottery, 16 people matched all six numbers to win the top prize, each receiving 1.79 billion won before tax.
