PPP revives 'four-officer meeting' as Jang, Jeong lead reboot

The People Power Party revived its "four-officer meeting," bringing together the party leader, floor leader, policy committee chair and secretary-general, on Wednesday. The revival aims to strengthen internal communication on key party matters and coordinate the party's response to the ruling party as the regular parliamentary session gets underway.

According to party officials, Party Leader Jang Dong-hyeok, Floor Leader Jeong Jeom-sik, Policy Committee Chair Im I-ja and Secretary-General Jeong Hee-yong met that day. The four held the first "four-officer meeting" behind closed doors. They agreed to hold the meeting every Wednesday going forward, on days when no official sessions such as the Supreme Council meeting or floor strategy meeting are scheduled.

The four-officer meeting serves as a forum for the party leadership to share information on major issues and coordinate strategy both inside and outside the National Assembly. With the regular parliamentary session underway, the meeting is expected to address legislative strategy and the national audit, as well as the party's response to broader political issues.

Particular attention is focused on whether the revived meeting will help align the views of Jang and Jeong, the party's "top two" figures. The two have shown differing views on party direction and leadership issues.

Earlier, some within the party had pointed to disagreements between the two as a factor behind the roughly two-month delay in naming a policy committee chair. The post requires consultation between the party leader and the floor leader. The leadership lineup was completed with the recent appointment of Im as policy committee chair.

The People Power Party had suspended the four-officer meeting to focus on election-related work during the local elections. The party resumed the meeting after wrapping up the process of naming the policy committee chair.

The party leadership plans to make the four-officer meeting a regular fixture, using it to discuss strategy for the regular parliamentary session and the party's response to issues involving the ruling party, among other key matters.
