Aluminum sculpture 'Endless Love' donated to company
Precision design, CNC machining and other manufacturing skills used in creation
First solo exhibition 'Endless' runs through Tuesday at Seoul Auction's Gangnam center
Hanmi Semiconductor said Wednesday that Chairman Kwak Dong-shin has donated five works titled "Endless Love," created under his artist name Kwak Shin, to the company.
"Endless Love" is a sculptural piece that arranges precision-machined aluminum objects on canvas. Kwak applied manufacturing techniques drawn from the factory floor to the creative process, including AutoCAD-based design, CNC milling machines and industrial robot cutting.
Hanmi Semiconductor plans to display the donated works in its offices.
Kwak drew on the metal materials and precision manufacturing processes he has worked with through the semiconductor equipment business and an automobile sales business to create the pieces. The company described the works as combining "the precision manufacturing technology accumulated in the semiconductor equipment industry with artistic imagination."
Kwak is holding his first solo exhibition, "Endless," at Seoul Auction's Gangnam center from Aug. 28 through Tuesday. The show presents about 60 aluminum sculptural works under the theme of "time that endures forever on metal."
