24th Korea-China-Japan PD Forum opens in Suwon

The 24th Korea-China-Japan PD Forum opened Tuesday at the Suwon Convention Center. The event will run through Friday at the convention center and in the Hwaseong Fortress area of Suwon.

Speaking at the opening ceremony Tuesday, Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-joon said, "Today's media environment is changing rapidly alongside artificial intelligence, but the essence of content — capturing creators' intense reflection and philosophy — does not change." He added, "I hope this forum will be a meaningful opportunity to explore new horizons for East Asian content at this major turning point brought by AI."

The city of Suwon and the Suwon Convention Center Foundation hosted the 24th Korea-China-Japan PD Forum. The event drew about 200 participants, including producers, broadcast makers and other media figures from Korea, China and Japan.

On Tuesday, a forum session was held under the theme "How Are Good Formats Born?" On Wednesday, a main session featured screenings of representative documentary, entertainment and drama works selected by each of the three countries, along with directors sharing their production know-how. Ahead of the main session, Hong Kyung-soo, a professor of cultural content at Ajou University, delivered a keynote speech on "The Current State and Challenges of the Content Industry."

On Thursday, a Global Pitching Session will give creators a chance to present their ideas and explore collaboration and co-production opportunities with production partners from Korea and abroad.

On Friday, a "Suwon Culture and Tourism Tour" will take participants through Paldalmun Gate, Hwaseong Haenggung, the Suwon Traditional Culture Center, Haenggung-dong, Hwaseomun Gate and Janganmun Gate. The tour will also include visits to filming locations of various drama series.

A Suwon city official said, "We hope this forum will be an opportunity for Suwon's history, culture and the diverse stories found throughout the city to be discovered and developed into new content." The official added, "We will strive to promote the appeal of Suwon as a global cultural tourism city, both at home and abroad."
