Hanwha Systems unveils next-generation satellite imagery AI technology

Hanwha Systems said Thursday that it held a launch event for its "Space AI Solution" at MSPO 2026, Eastern Europe's largest defense industry exhibition, in Kielce, Poland, on Wednesday (local time).

The event marked the first time the company has unveiled its Space AI Solution, a next-generation satellite imagery analysis technology, to an overseas market. Rather than a simulation, the demonstration showed AI analyzing in real time actual imagery of the Eastern European region captured by satellites currently in operation.

The Space AI Solution uses AI to precisely read and analyze imagery data transmitted to ground stations by various satellites orbiting Earth, then summarizes and delivers key information. By automatically performing functions such as object detection, situational pattern analysis and anomaly detection, the AI supports faster and more accurate decision-making for commanders and users. The core of the solution lies in integrating the entire process — from satellite imagery collection to AI-based fusion analysis to decision support for commanders — into a single system.

Conventional synthetic aperture radar, or SAR, satellites have the advantage of being able to capture imagery regardless of weather or lighting conditions, but their black-and-white radar images are difficult to read with the naked eye. The Space AI Solution identifies aircraft, ships and vehicles within SAR imagery in a matter of seconds and dramatically improves resolution.

"This Space AI Solution is a world-class technology that integrates the analysis of electro-optical and SAR satellite imagery. It is a game changer that transforms the value of satellite data beyond mere collection into immediate reconnaissance and tactical intelligence," a Hanwha Systems official said.

The official added, "In line with the space investment being pursued by Hanwha Group, we will complete our own 'space-ground fusion infrastructure' linking very-low-earth-orbit SAR satellites and space AI data centers, and lead the global defense and space markets."

Meanwhile, Hanwha Aerospace, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), LIG Defense & Aerospace and Hyundai Rotem also took part in MSPO 2026. The companies showcased air defense weapon systems and equipment tailored for Poland, aimed at the European market.
