Gangnam-gu council holds anti-corruption, disability training

The Gangnam-gu Council held anti-corruption training and disability awareness training on Tuesday afternoon in the open meeting room on the seventh floor of the council building, drawing all council members and staff of the council secretariat.

The anti-corruption session came first, led by Kim Jong-sik, a standing member of the National Unification Advisory Council and an instructor at the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission's Integrity Training Institute. Kim spoke on establishing sound values for public office and a strong sense of integrity, covering the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act, the code of conduct for local council members and the prevention of workplace "gapjil," abuse of power by superiors.

The disability awareness session that followed was led by Lee Mi-young, director of the Bakkum Education Institute and a certified disability awareness instructor with the Korea Disabled People's Development Institute. Lee spoke on formulating policies and building a workplace culture free of discrimination and prejudice toward people with disabilities, addressing the need for a positive perception of disability and people with disabilities, an understanding of the accessibility of facilities for people with disabilities in everyday life, and respect for the diversity of disabilities.

The session was attended by Council Chairman Lee Jae-jin, Vice Chairwoman Kim Hyun-jung, Steering Committee Chairman Kang Hyun-sup, Administration and Security Committee Chairman Lee In-sun, Economic and Urban Affairs Committee Chairman Song Young-gwang and Welfare and Culture Committee Chairwoman Oh On-nu-ri. Council members Bok Jin-kyung, Lee Dong-ho, Lee Sang-ae, Kim Jin-kyung, Kim Yoon-hee, Han Sung-soon, Lee Jong-won (District Na), Kim Young-min, Kim Ji-woong, Yeom Hee-ok, Hwang Tae-hyun, Lee Jong-won (District Ma), Ko Eun-jin, Bae Geun-hee, Eun Myung-ju and No Mi-jin also attended. Together they took the occasion to reflect on the importance of fostering a culture of integrity within the organization and deepening a proper understanding of disability.

Closing the session, Council Chairman Lee Jae-jin said, "Building on this training, we will continue education and practical efforts to cultivate a culture of integrity within the local council and further raise awareness of disability." He added, "We will continue to provide diverse training opportunities to strengthen the legislative capabilities of both council members and staff."
