Gangseo Police hand out safety key rings, run traffic campaign for schoolchildren

Police have launched a crackdown on traffic violations, including drunk driving, in school zones as the new semester begins.

The Gangseo Police Station in Seoul said Thursday that it carried out a joint crackdown on drunk driving and a traffic safety campaign in a school zone in front of Seoul Airport Elementary School in Magok-dong, Gangseo-gu, together with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and related organizations.

Police handed out 800 fluorescent reflective key rings printed with pedestrian safety guidelines to students on their way to school, urging them to walk safely.

They also promoted the "Good Driving Campaign" to drivers, urging compliance with traffic safety rules such as wearing helmets and seat belts and using turn signals.

Police also carried out a crackdown on drunk driving within the school zone alongside the campaign, urging drivers to obey traffic laws.

"We will strictly crack down on traffic violations in school zones to create a safe walking environment for children," a Gangseo Police Station official said. "We will continue to work closely with local governments and other related organizations to make school commutes safer."
