LH transfers BIM technology to GH

The Korea Land and Housing Corporation said Friday that it will transfer its independently developed core "building information modeling" (BIM) technology for housing complexes to the Gyeonggi Housing & Urban Development Corporation (GH) to promote wider use of BIM in the public sector.

BIM combines three-dimensional models with construction data to manage the information and processes needed throughout a building's life cycle, from planning and design to construction and maintenance.

LH was the first public institution to establish BIM application guidelines and has developed its own "BIM design support core technology." The software supports automated construction cost calculations, water and sewage hydraulic calculations, and earthwork design during BIM-based complex design, boosting work efficiency.

Through the transfer of these guidelines and technology, LH aims to minimize redundant investment across institutions and unify BIM application standards. The goal is a single standardized BIM system for public-sector housing complex projects.

LH signed an MOU with GH on Thursday to transfer BIM technology and build cooperation across various sectors, including the development of third-phase new towns. Under the agreement, LH plans to transfer its self-developed "BIM application guidelines for housing complexes" and "BIM design support core technology."

Earlier, in August, LH signed a similar MOU with the Busan Metropolitan City Development Corporation and completed a BIM technology transfer to the organization.

"Following the Busan Metropolitan City Development Corporation and GH, we will continue transferring BIM technology to institutions that need it," an LH official said. "By actively sharing the BIM technology we independently developed and hold with the public sector, we will lead the way in building a BIM technology ecosystem for public institutions."

Meanwhile, LH earlier completed development of an AI-based automated earthwork design software to support BIM design and has already distributed it to the private sector.
