Ex-Big Bang member Seungri accused of assault

Seungri (real name Lee Seung-hyun), a former member of K-pop group Big Bang, has been accused of aggravated assault.

Gangnam Police Station in Seoul said Friday that a complaint accusing Lee of aggravated assault was filed Aug. 26. Lee is alleged to have assaulted a man in his 30s during a meal together at a restaurant in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

A Gangnam Police Station official said the case had been filed but that the complainant had not yet been questioned, declining to provide further details.

Lee was indicted without detention in January 2020 on charges including arranging prostitution and illegal overseas gambling. The charges stemmed from the fallout of the Burning Sun nightclub scandal, which erupted in November 2018 at a club in Gangnam, Seoul. He was later sentenced to one year and six months in prison, which he served in full before his release in Feb. 2023.
