Yeoncheon-gun signs MOU with Korea SMEs and Startups Agency to boost green biotech industry

Yeoncheon-gun signed an MOU with the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency on Thursday to promote the green biotech industry in northern Gyeonggi Province.

The signing ceremony, held at the Yeoncheon-gun Office situation room, was attended by Yeoncheon-gun County Chief Kim Deok-hyeon, Korea SMEs and Startups Agency Corporate Finance Director Kim Il-ho, Lee Jun-seok, head of the agency's northern Gyeonggi branch, and other officials from both organizations.

The agreement is designed to link the agency's business support capabilities with the Yeoncheon Business Innovation eXcel and the green biotech development zone, with the aim of fostering growth among local companies and attracting new businesses to the area.

The two organizations agreed to cooperate on policy financing — including cooperative funds — and business support programs, export assistance and overseas market information, workforce support programs and inter-agency collaboration, and joint efforts to address on-site regulatory barriers facing businesses.

Yeoncheon-gun said it expects the agreement to allow companies based at the Yeoncheon Business Innovation eXcel and green biotech firms to make more systematic use of support programs covering policy financing, exports and workforce needs.

"We are developing the green biotech industry into a new growth engine, drawing on the Yeoncheon Business Innovation eXcel and the green biotech development zone," County Chief Kim said. "We will work closely with the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency to ensure this agreement translates into business growth, investment attraction and a more vibrant local economy."

Lee Jun-seok, head of the agency's northern Gyeonggi branch, said the agency would "actively cooperate to connect Yeoncheon-gun's industrial foundation with our business support capabilities so that local companies can receive practical assistance."

Yeoncheon-gun said it plans to maintain an ongoing working-level cooperation framework with the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency and jointly develop projects aimed at attracting businesses to the Yeoncheon Business Innovation eXcel, activating the green biotech development zone and strengthening the competitiveness of local companies.
