LG AI Research and the National Pension Service have agreed to jointly develop AI services aimed at improving the expertise and efficiency of pension fund management.

The two organizations signed an MOU to that effect Friday at LG AI Research's headquarters in Magok, Gangseo-gu, Seoul.

The signing ceremony was attended by Kang Chang-nam, head of the support division at the National Pension Service's Fund Management Headquarters, and Lee Hwa-young, head of the business development division at LG AI Research.

The two sides agreed to combine LG AI Research's AI capabilities with the National Pension Service's investment expertise to build AI services tailored to fund management operations.

"AI is reshaping the paradigm across industries," Kang said. "The Fund Management Headquarters, which is responsible for the nation's financial future, will keep pace with these changes by leveraging AI to enhance the professionalism and efficiency of our operations."

Lee said LG AI Research's finance-specialized AI technology "has already earned recognition from numerous global investors," adding that the partnership aims to create a model case for leading AI adoption in the public sector.

LG AI Research's financial AI agent, Exaone BI, has already signed agreements with multiple investment institutions, including the Canada Pension Plan, establishing its credentials in global financial markets.

Deployed across services at the London Stock Exchange Group, Koscom and Kiwoom Securities, the system analyzes more than 8,000 stocks listed in South Korea and the United States every day, providing predictive scores and expert-level analysis for each.

Building on this, LG AI Research plans to begin joint development of an AI-based exchange rate analysis service. Using Exaone BI, the partners will draw on macroeconomic indicators, news, research materials and other unstructured market data alongside National Pension Service data to develop an AI-based forecasting and analysis model tailored to pension fund management.

The National Pension Service expects to introduce AI into its investment research and decision-making processes, raising the quality and efficiency of investment judgments and improving long-term returns.

The partners plan to validate the AI-based exchange rate analysis service and, over the longer term, expand the areas where AI can be applied in fund management operations.

Both sides said they will place reliability and safety as their top priorities, with the goal of creating a case where all citizens can benefit from AI with confidence.
