US core consumer prices rise 0.3% in August, beating forecasts

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday (local time) that the consumer price index rose 3.4 percent in August from a year earlier.

Month over month, the CPI climbed 0.4 percent, matching analyst forecasts on both an annual and monthly basis, according to Yonhap.

Core CPI, which strips out volatile energy and food prices, rose 2.4 percent from a year ago and 0.3 percent from the previous month. The annual reading matched analyst expectations, but the monthly figure came in slightly above the forecast of 0.2 percent.
