Cheong Wa Dae calls North Korea's ballistic missile launch 'violation of UN Security Council resolutions'

The National Security Office convened an emergency security review meeting Saturday in response to North Korea's launch of short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea, with officials from the Ministry of National Defense and the Joint Chiefs of Staff in attendance.

The office said the meeting reviewed the government's response to the launch, analyzed and assessed the impact on South Korea's security, reviewed necessary countermeasures and confirmed the country would maintain full readiness.

The office also urged North Korea to immediately halt its ballistic missile launches, calling them a grave violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

Earlier, the Joint Chiefs of Staff said it had detected "several ballistic missiles fired from the Wonsan area of North Korea into the East Sea at around 5:20 a.m."
